This time he made it all the way to the quarter-finals in style, eliminating Mick Manning and Mark Thomson 3-0. He even defeated the former world champion, Steve Beaton, 4-2, but his glorious run was ended by Bob Anderson as he defeated Andy 5-1 in the quarter-finals.

Continuing his excellent run next year, Hamilton came back strongly knocking out Anderson 3-2 in first round and Terry Jenkins 4-1 in the second, but Andy fell prey to the aggressive game play of Phil Taylor and lost 0-4 in the third round of the championship. Nonetheless, he did manage to score a superb 170 finish, an almost unparalleled feat only matched by the champion, Taylor.

Hamilton also attained the quarter-finals stage of Las Vegas Desert Classic 2006, but lost to Raymond van Barneveld 1-3. Suffering two losses in the year, an infuriated Hamilton despatched the No. 4 seed, Peter Manley, 10-2 in his debut at World Match-Play Darts tournament in the same year. He scored another sensational 15-13 victory over Adrian Lewis and then came with another 16-9 upset over the local hero, Wayne Mardle. His glorious run was sadly ended again by the world champion, Taylor, in the semis as Andy lost 17-11 in a hard fought battle.

Surprisingly the trend continued the next year, in 2007, as Hamilton again fell prey to Taylor in the semi-finals of the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship.
